Schools and Universities Recently we conducted a survey of the top 10 local corporate accounts across the country, and we found that schools and universities were in the top three of everyone’s list! Calling on these institutions is not limited to the athletic departments. Most university departments have a need to rent cars or vans. The astronomy department may rent vans to take students "star gazing". The archeology department may need to rent a van for a site visit. Most professors need to attend regional meetings and can save costs by going in one vehicle. The universities have career placement centers and often times will have people from corporations come in and meet with the students. If you establish a good relationship with this department, they can refer incoming business to you. Athletic departments are high on the list of rental vehicles. The golf department is a great source of business. Most universities host an event in their city and send out information to visiting teams. By establishing a good relationship with the golf coach, you can have your rental information sent out with the information on the tournament. Tennis, swimming, volleyball, and track are other good sources for university business. The larger teams such as basketball, football, and baseball generally need buses for their transportation needs. This does not, however, eliminate the need for car rentals for the scouts! Schools at all grade levels may need to rent vehicles, especially the private schools where they don’t normally have a fleet of buses. They need 15 passenger vans for off-site visits and events. A great idea would be to post a notice in the school paper announcing a special rate on vans if parents want to get together for an "away game". Cheerleaders in the lower grades generally do not ride on the team bus, and could be a great source for van rentals. With the implementation of the new collegiate program, you now have a key contact that can assist you these areas. We also have a TIPS (Thrifty Incentive Payment System) that will pay a rebate to your school or organization when they rent from Thrifty. For more information on the TIPS program, contact Tey Donley, Business Analyst, at 918-669-2420, or by e-mail at tey.donley@thrifty.com. Additional Information In an effort to create a distinct Thrifty identity and awareness, other initiatives have already been established. These include a new Thrifty Car Rental collegiate logo which is used on collateral, special agreements, and collegiate identification. Local businesses will be encouraged, as before, to contact your locations directly. An emphasis on 15-passenger van availability is an important aspect of the program. Currently there are no plans to offer any discounts on these vehicles. A 777 prefix is used on collegiate discount numbers (CD or corporate discount number). This differentiates collegiate accounts from regular corporate accounts. The program for participating schools is extended to faculty, staff, enrolled students, and alumni. Additional charges for drivers under 25 are waived only if renter is on school business, including athletic van rentals. All other normal rental qualifications will apply. Local sales and marketing incentive will apply to participation as well.
